Canada's federal budget is set to increase taxes and fees on tobacco and e-cigarettes, which the government hopes will generate $1.7 billion in new revenue, according to overseas media reports. On July 1 of this year, e-cigarette taxes and fees will rise by 12%.

In addition to the C$1.49 automatic inflationary increase, the government also plans to raise the excise tax on a carton of cigarettes by C$4, which is expected to bring in C$1.36 billion over five years. The tax increase will bring in about C$310 million over five years.
